Shakti Maira

Chronologically, the ‘Daan’ series is the earliest (2000), followed by the ‘Pilgrim's Path’ (2001) and most recently the new series, ‘Beej’ and the new bronze sculptures in the ‘Witness’ series.

‘Daan’ series: Daan is ‘giving’, and this series was an exploration of generosity and giving, an important virtue to be cultivated in Buddhism. This is a series of unique prints that mixed collagraph and intaglio plates and chine collé. The prints are 18 x 12 inches (450 x 300 mm). They have never been exhibited.

‘Pilgrim’s Path’ series: This series on paper and canvas was exhibited in Delhi (2001) and Bombay (2002). There is enough strong work available in the series for an exhibition.

‘Beej’ series: This is the new series that will consist mainly of scrolls, but will include work on paper and a couple of large canvases.

‘Witness’ series: This summer I cast six new pieces in this series. They are about 4 feet (1.3m) high. These are available for showing now, and I will be building further pieces this winter.

Resurgence Gallery

Resurgence has always featured the work of visual artists who give expression to the themes and values espoused in the magazine. Some of these artists are relatively well known; others have only a local reputation. All have been selected because there is something about their imaginative work which chimes with, or amplifies the spiritual and ecological message of Resurgence.
