Deputy Editor, Resurgence & Ecologist
The Resurgence Trust is looking for a talented and experienced Editor to work on all aspects of production of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine.
We are looking for someone with proven editorial experience, preferably to include working on a magazine, newspaper or website and with a capacity for fresh thinking as well as an eye for detail, editorial judgement and a knowledge of those issues central to the contents of the magazine – environment, social justice, spirituality and the arts.
Working as a key member of the editorial team, the Deputy Editor will have an understanding of and sympathy with the values of The Resurgence Trust and will help to develop strong content, to communicate this ethos. The magazine has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and is now looking to meet the challenges of its next half-century.
This is a responsible and creative role that will involve editing, planning and crafting the magazine with some commissioning and writing. The Deputy Editor will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief, Greg Neale.
Personal requirements for the successful candidate
- Proven editorial and journalistic experience (with a minimum of 5 years experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven knowledge of the areas covered by the magazine, notably environment, social justice, spirituality and the arts
- Ability to manage and support freelance contributors/writers
- Supportive of the values, principles and holistic philosophy of The Resurgence Trust
- Good team skills, plus the ability to work independently
- Competent with Apple Mac systems
- General office administration and organisational skills
- Initiative and enthusiasm
Job Specification
- Edit articles, to required length and house style, write headlines, standfirsts etc
- Maintain and develop strong relationships with contributors and publicists
- Keep a diary of forthcoming events, exhibitions and book releases
- Research and write occasional articles and reviews
- Commission and develop strong content reflective of the ethos, with the Editor-in-Chief
- Liaise with the editorial team throughout the magazine cycle
- Attend regular forward planning, editorial, picture and design meetings
- Proof reading the magazine
- Manage the editorial budget with the Assistant Editor and Editor-in-Chief
- General editorial administration
- Attend staff meetings and occasional Resurgence events
- To deputise as and when required for the Editor-in-Chief
Salary details: £20,000 pro rata
Part time: 3 days per week, based in Hartland, North Devon
3 year funded post, with potential to extend
