Shakti Maira: How do you see the connection between beauty and ecology?

Vandana Shiva: There is a huge connection. When I go into a field, I can make out the state of its ecological health just by looking. A natural forest always evokes a sense of beauty. In a beautiful forest there is space for diversity; there are all kinds of things growing, in many surprising niches. Where there is space for diversity, there is balance. The dominant species do not eat up the space of the small species.
