GLOBAL: MUSLIM STATES’ ACCORD
Ministers from more than 50 Muslim countries agreed a Declaration for Environmental Protection at a conference in Rabat, Morocco, last October. The declaration calls on members of the 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to actively pursue sustainable development goals, energy efficiency, and poverty eradication. Iyad Ameen Madani, OIC secretary general, said: “We achieved broad consensus on a wide array of issues ranging from water and food security to climate change.”
