Many of us are surrounded by sounds that we have no control over. We’ve become so accustomed to being bombarded by unwanted sound that we have invented a name for it:‘white noise’.

Birdsong is considered a good sound. It is musical and can have the same emotional effect on humans as music does. Most birds sing in a vocal range that humans can hear and engage with, and for many of us it is indeed a very pleasant sound to our ears and can make us feel calm and grounded.

I will never forget walking into the toilet at a service station on the M25 and hearing birds singing. My immediate reaction ...
