The July 2024 general election in the UK was extraordinary for the Green Party. After five decades of perseverance, we quadrupled our numbers in the British parliament, securing four MPs, just as we’d aimed to do: a historic step, filling our movement with joy and renewed expectancy.

Yet, in the sober light of reflection, we must admit that even this breakthrough falls far short of granting us real power at Westminster. While, to quote from The Lord of the Rings: “The hour grows late...”

The truth is simple: our remarkable gains are not enough to alter the trajectory of climate ...
