A few months ago, on a street in London, I saw a billboard advertising a brand of expensive French luggage. The billboard had no text, but only a full colour photograph of a lake fringed by mountains and tropical vegetation. In its foreground was a wooden landing stage on which stood two cormorants and – in perfect focus – a couple of branded suitcases. The light in the image was warm, soft, exotic – it was very alluring. I took a photograph of the billboard to add to my collection.
