Good news! One year on from Peter Bunyard’s insightful article in Resurgence discussing the global benefits of leaving oil reserves beneath the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador, a groundbreaking agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to do just that has been signed. Ecuador will now be compensated by donor countries via a trust fund for leaving its oil reserves in Yasuni National Park untouched beneath the primary rainforest that covers some 9,820km2.
