Discussions about what is native to an ecosystem (nativity) crop up everywhere, and the language used is sometimes divisive: “foreign invader” and “alien species” are frequent refrains. And any suspicion such language is tinged with xenophobia is confirmed within the media. For example, not long ago The Sun newspaper published an article about non-natives such as wild boar with the headline “Our illegal immigrunts” (my italics).
