Dave Reeve: You describe an expedition in Chiloé, Chile in 1999, and an encounter with a mushroom that became a lightning bolt for you. Could you talk about that moment?

Giuliana Furci: I didn’t know anything about mushrooms or fungi at all. I was walking through the forest and I saw this beautiful bright orange mushroom. It had such a powerful presence, and such a different presence in the forest – not like a plant, not like a bird. It had a different stance, and it was emitting something different. I really wanted to know, who are you? How can I know more about you? Or know your name?
