My wife June and I read poetry every morning. This is how we start the day. It has been said that prose should be read and poetry should be listened to, so reading poetry aloud feels like a very good practice. First we have breakfast for the heart, and then breakfast for the body – poetry first, and then porridge!

Ever since June and I met in 1971, we have been reading together. We have read spiritual books in general, and poetry in particular. Reading together and talking about the meaning of the text has been good for our relationship.
