Becca Thorne is an illustrator and printmaker originally from the Forest of Dean and now based in Bristol. She studied BA (hons) Illustration and MA Authorial Illustration at Falmouth College of Arts from 2001-2005, where she developed a love of linocut, a relief printmaking method that can be done anywhere without the need for specialist equipment. She still uses a teaspoon to hand burnish the majority of her prints.

A passion for conservation and the natural world dominates Becca's practice. Inspired by wild landscapes, the influence of sea and moorland is clear in the sweeping lines and flowing energy of many pieces, with stylistic influence drawn from Medieval imagery and folk art. The detail in her prints stems from a deep engagement with her subject matter; observation and experience are combined with extensive research into natural habitats and the relationships between species, resulting in works that are full of life and texture.

Becca has an extensive and diverse portfolio, illustrating for numerous publishing, editorial and packaging clients, including The Folio Society, The Bumblebee Conservation Trust, BBC History Magazine, Schwartz, Thames and Hudson, Unbound, The Washington Post, Waitrose Food and Yale University Press.

Becca's work illustrates the themed section of our March/April 2025 Issue (349).
