Tim Li is a full time, New Zealand based, artist who produces hyper-realistic graphite illustrations of Aotearoa’s marine species. Growing up in Taupō at a fish and chip shop, Tim spent his afternoons drawing inspiration from the iconic New Zealand fish species poster, and this is where his fascination for the underwater world started.

Drawing has been a way for Tim to pay homage to the beauty and unique characteristics of New Zealand fish species. Pāua shells adorned with algal growth, kingfish, orange roughy, albacore tuna and tāmure are just a few of the oceanic objects Tim has etched in glorious graphite detail. He hopes that these patiently constructed designs engender a respect and admiration for our shared marine environs.

Each drawing, produced on archival grade fine art paper, takes upwards of 150 hours and is meticulously rendered with truth and sincerity.
