The Art of Resurgence
An exhibition celebrating 60 years of Resurgence
23 May - 18 July 2026
Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, Barnstaple, North Devon EX32 8LN
"Human happiness, true prosperity and joyful living can only emerge from a life of elegant simplicity, embedded in the arts and crafts." - Satish Kumar
To honour the 60th anniversary of Resurgence, we are presenting an exhibition at the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon. Throughout the exhibition, we will be sharing the story of Resurgence and celebrating the work of artists who have contributed to the magazine's visual history.
The exhibition explores the early days of Resurgence as a pioneering peace magazine, it's transformation into an environmental charity and the creation of The Resurgence Centre in Hartland, North Devon.
You'll discover some of the visionaries whose ideas were featured in the magazine and the myriad of initiatives that emerged from Resurgence, including Schumacher College, The Schumacher Society, Green Books and The Small School.
There will be a dedicated space showcasing cover images from the Resurgence magazine archive going back to 1966 as well as artwork and prints by artists who featured in the publication, including early works by Axel Sheffler and Jackie Morris. We will also be exhibiting crafts by ceramicist Sandy Brown and founder of the global Craftivist Collective, Sarah P Corbett.
We warmly invite you to come along to this free exhibition and participate in creative workshops, a poetry reading, and a talk by the founder of The Resurgence Trust, Satish Kumar. The exhibition will run from 23 May to 18 July 2026.
We look forward to seeing some of you there.
