ENERGY FROM LONDON UNDERGROUND USED TO HEAT HOMES

A new energy centre in a disused tube station in Islington, London is using waste heat from the Northern Line to provide heating for more than 1,350 homes, a school and two leisure centres in the city, local officials said.

Bunhill 2 Energy Centre, described as the first of its kind in the world, comprises a huge underground fan that extracts warm air from the tunnels below. This is then used to heat water, which is pumped to buildings in the neighbourhood, contributing to an existing network of green energy used in the borough.
