Yevgeniy Vitishko is a prominent member of the Russian organisation Environmental Watch on North Caucasus, which has protested against deforestation, construction and illegal fencing in protected areas in the Krasnodar region. The organisation is known for exposing the damage caused by the Olympic construction, and in the run-up to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics its members were subjected to a sustained campaign of harassment by the Russian authorities, which is continuing.
