Sudanese political activist Alaa Aldin al-Difana was being held incommunicado without charge at Dhahban prison near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as this issue went to press. He was arrested on 26 December 2016, raising fears that he could be at risk of torture and other ill-treatment, according to Amnesty International, which is calling for him to be given access to a lawyer and medical care.
