Lek Chailert, Thailand

Lek Chailert saw her first elephant logging camp when she was 16 years old, and the abuse she witnessed that day set her on a compassionate path. “It’s not right,” she says of the way humans take elephants and break their spirit in order to get them to do their bidding. “They are born for their own reasons. They have a right to stay on this planet.”
