The countryside is my escape, away from the to-do list and stresses of life, somewhere I can just breathe. I want it to be my haven, yet for me as a woman on my own it doesn’t always feel safe.

Recent reports show that women are often concerned about their safety when alone, whether in the city or in more rural places. The worry increases after dark or dusk. Men can happily decide to go for a run in the dark, but women face a dilemma. Have they missed their chance for the day? Should they go with someone else, or risk it alone?
