On a particularly warm May morning, I find myself flying around Kew Gardens on the back of an electric buggy, in pursuit of the elusive Marc Quinn. As we zip through the grounds, I spot the telltale signs of Quinn’s presence: gigantic botanical sculptures scattered across the landscape and nestled in the glasshouses. Eventually I catch up with him in the north octagon of the Temperate House. Beneath the sprawling branches of a monumental bronze bonsai of his creation, we discuss humankind’s volatile relationship with Nature and how it manifests in his latest exhibition, Light into Life.
