I must disagree with Chris Saltmarsh (Reviews, May/June issue (344)) when he says the success of the environment movement depends on “mass organisation, movement democracy and representative leadership”. The problem with the environment movement is that people say they’re concerned about climate change but do very little about it. Many car owners drive distances of less than a mile when they could easily walk. Half the UK population takes a flight in any given year but only 1–3% of those contribute ...
