From greed and prejudice to plenitude and happiness, and from the places and eras where money has talked the loudest, artists – including Susan Stockwell, whose ‘money dress’ is pictured here – have long explored the balance between power and wealth.

Alongside these artworks is a range of money including Roman, Chinese and Islamic coins, and Art Nouveau banknotes. The artwork for currency featuring King Edward VIII and King Charles III is on display for the first time, and there are also pieces that explore the new phenomenon of cryptocurrency and NFTs.
