Nicolò Reali, aka Gola Hundun, is an Italian artist and muralist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, where he showed a particular interest in the representation of human anatomy, organs and cells. In 2004 he moved to Barcelona to attend further classes at the Academy of Fine Arts. It was there that he began his artistic activity in public spaces, becoming involved in the local street art and graffiti scene, his work characterised by the intense use of vivid colour and an attitude that was both naive and punk.
Hundun's work is not defined by the media he chooses, but rather by the world he aims to create: a world populated by animal, vegetal and cellular elements, which often melt into a sort of organised chaos of fragmented shapes and symbols. The most noticeable characteristics of his style are the bright colours and the attention to detail. Both the drawing and the addition of colour are important aspects of his creative process.
Around 2014, the use of green became progressively dominant in Hundun’s palette, emphasising the symbolic and naturalistic value of his paintings. More recently, Hundun has broadened his creative horizons to construct installations composed of natural elements such as living plants, fibres, branches, soil and leaves. These installations appear to be habitats for specific micro/macro communities, or animal shelters.
"All that dwells in the multiverse is Nature. Through my artwork I try to illustrate and visually recast the separation between human society and Nature. My aspiration is to unify ancestral heart with today’s knowledge," Hundun explains.
