Talks

Frieda Gormley • In the Company of Nature

Frieda Gormley

Frieda Gormley is the co-founder of The House of Hackney, a British B Corp interiors brand reimagining business as a force for good. Over the past decade, what started as a love affair with Nature’s beauty, prints and palette, has evolved into a question that now guides much of her life and mission at House of Hackney. What if business could be a force for life? Taking cues from Nature we’ve been slowly shifting from extraction to regeneration. From growth-at-all-costs to something more rooted and reciprocal. From seeing Nature as a resource...to remembering that we are Nature. And when she thrives, so do we. Along the way we’ve experimented with new forms of governance, redefining profit along the way and asking what happens when you give Nature a voice in decision-making.

During this session, Frieda will be talking about her new book In the Company of Nature. The book tells the remarkable story behind the House of Hackney and the journey that led to giving Nature a voice at the table.

Satish Kumar • Peace is possible

Satish Kumar

Satish Kumar will be speaking about peace among nations, and how peace is not only urgently needed but also how it is possible. Peace is more than an absence of war, it is a way of living in harmony with each and all. Satish calls for us to make peace with ourselves, with nature and with all the peoples of the world. Satish’s new book Peace is Possible is published by Bloomsbury (May 2026).

Satish is an activist and internationally renowned speaker on ecological issues. Born in India, he has been a Jain monk, nuclear disarmament advocate and pacifist. He walked 8,000 miles from India to America for peace. Satish is the honorary president of Schumacher College, Editor Emeritus of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine and a Fellow of the Temenos Academy.

He is a Trustee of the Torbay Community Development Trust and formerly a Director of the Flameworks Creative Arts Facility in Plymouth, where he lives with Karen, his partner. When he's not spending time with Karen and her three daughters, he's normally to be found on his allotment.

Annemarie Borg • The infinite power of vibrations

Annemarie Borg

In this session, we will explore sounds, sensations, and images that connect us with the wisdom of our senses and the constant flow and change of our place within nature. We will ask: how do we fall in love? and, how can we express a sense of belonging and harmony? Drawing on her immersive studies and deep wisdom, Annemarie will invite us into the sounds of nature and the resonance of whale songs as we explore what connects us with the very soul of mother Earth.

Annemarie is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, an ocean preservation speaker, a musician/composer and a professional photographer as well as a performance coach. Natalie Fée and friends • Under the Oak

Natalie Fee

Join singer-songwriter and environmental campaigner Natalie Fée and friends for 'Under the Oak' - a performance of folk music, poetry and stories inspired by Natalie’s year sitting under a local oak tree, which she embarked upon after her conversation at Resurgence Summer Camp in 2023, with encouragement from Satish! Best known as the founder of City to Sea, Natalie spent a year sitting ‘under the oak’ - meditating, writing and listening to the land - and many of the songs written that year have made their way into ‘Daughter of Nature’, her debut album, which comes out in April this year.

Weaving the wild into song, Natalie draws her inspiration from a deep, embodied connection to nature, blending the traditional warmth of folk with poetic lyrics, enchanting harmonies and healing invocations. Singles from the album have already had plays on BBC Introducing, and have clocked up over 350,000 streams, so she thought it was time to share them live, and is delighted to be playing with violinist Clare Mactaggart and friends with us this summer.

Storytelling and Poetry

Diana Sanders • Poetry readings

Award-winning poet Diana Sanders will be sharing her eco-poetry throughout the weekend. Eco-poetry has seen a rise in popularity in recent years but examples of the broader genre of nature poetry have existed since the dawn of poetry itself. Readers of Resurgence will be familiar with eco poetry – as a type of literature that expresses connection with nature and the environment. Eco-poetry is nature centred rather than human centred. But often it is about how humans create havoc in the non-human world. Sometimes it is urgent and unsettling. Contemporary eco-poets use metaphors, unique imagery, sound composition, art and metaphor to draw readers into the natural world. They also create works that evoke an emotional response from readers, encouraging them to reflect on their relationship with the environment.

Fiona Eadie • Storytelling

Fiona Eadie

Telling stories that entertain, illuminate, engage and inspire – to all age groups in a variety of settings.Fiona is passionate about language and about bringing the spoken word to life. Like most storytellers, she works with stories that have come down to us through the oral tradition and tells these face-to-face rather than reading from books or scripts.

Fiona studied at the International School of Storytelling in Sussex and now delights in telling stories in libraries, museums, arts centres, businesses, schools, at weddings and out-of-doors to adults, to children and to groups of people who have come together for a specific event. Fiona also devises new stories of place and runs regular storytelling sessions for all ages at Ruskin Mill in Gloucestershire.
