As part of our January Slow Sunday celebrations, we asked our members to “commit to one action to serve the planet in 2009” – and we know from the feedback we have received from our members that many of you have committed to grow more of your own food. Not only will this help reduce food miles, build resilience and encourage healthy lifestyles but it will link you to a diverse and creative community of like-minded people who ‘grow their own’.

For our Spring Slow Sunday on 29th March 2009 we would like to encourage you further to enjoy the seasonal pleasure of planting – be it a seed, a seedling or a sapling – in symbolic recognition that small actions really can lead to big change. The act of sowing a seed is an act of hope for the future, of trust in the generosity of the Earth and of solidarity with all beings.

Here at The Resurgence Trust, on Spring Slow Sunday 29th March, we will be planting two oak saplings in our Peace Grove to mark the 2,000th Resurgence Trust member.

If you are a Member of The Resurgence Trust, we have a special treat for you! Our colleagues at Garden Organic are offering a ‘2 for 1’ discount on the entrance fee to Garden Organic Ryton, its stunning organic demonstration gardens in Warwickshire, throughout March and April 2009.

Garden Organic is dedicated to the research and promotion of organic gardening, farming and food and has been at the forefront of the organic movement for the past 50 years. The organisation is based at Garden Organic Ryton in Warwickshire and as well as being home to the charity's headquarters the site also comprises over 22 acres of stunning organic demonstration grounds open to the public. The perfect place to visit if you are interested in gardening, organic growing and fresh, home-grown food, the site offers visitors over 30 individual gardens to discover, as well as the opportunity to pick up organic gardening tips, planting ideas and innovative pest-control measures. Gardens include the Paradise Garden, the Lillian Goldman Rose Garden and the world's first public biodynamic garden. There is also an award-winning shop, café and organic restaurant on site as well as a children's play area, the Vegetable Kingdom interactive experience and a chance to see the inner workings of the charity's renowned Heritage Seed Library.
