I started working with bees 12 years ago because they were a good ‘tool’ for studying aspects of evolutionary biology. Recently, my interest has developed into their ecological importance. The Global Bee Project (www.globalbeeproject.org) is a new not-for-profit group that works to educate people about the sheer diversity of bees and how we can help them, and my institution – the University of Gloucestershire – has become involved.
