We know that bees are in peril, that neonicotinoid pesticides pose serious threats to bee colonies and that wild flower habitat loss is a precursor to bee population decline. Einstein is said to have predicted that without the pollination services bees provide, when the last bee species becomes extinct humanity will survive only another four years. So our fate and the fate of bees is inextricably linked. Alarmingly, the short-haired bumblebee is now extinct in the UK, and many others are endangered.
