Amnesty International is urging support for Rubén Ortíz, who is suffering from threats and intimidation over his support for the rights of peasant farmer (campesino) communities and mission workers in Argentina.
Rubén Ortíz is an Argentine human rights defender, union representative and teacher in the city of Montecarlo, in Misiones province. A multinational paper factory that has been set up in the area is seriously affecting the agricultural crops of yerba mate, citrus fruits and cassava, obstructing access to land and work for the campesino communities.
