WE TREASURE OUR LOCAL HIGH STREET

When I saw the pictures accompanying Naomi Canton’s article on small traders (Diversity Keeps a High Street Alive, Issue 306), I assumed the article was going to be about our local shopping area of Bishopthorpe Road (affectionately known to locals as Bishy Road), as the illustrations are by Emily Sutton, a local York resident.

Like Ilminster, the subject of the article, we also have an amazing street offering a real mix of shops (though sadly no longer a post office). In 2015 it won the Best High Street in Britain award and has its own website www.bishyroad.net ...
