Energy has always defined our existence. The very fact that we exist in this universe, are alive, have evolved to have consciousness, and are able to live in complex societies is down to the nature of energy. We must have energy to eat, to work, to dream. We use energy to produce everything, and usually we use fossil fuel energy. The sheer scale of the global use of energy means that it was bound to have profound and historic consequences – both beneficial and costly.
