The Ecologist special series: Megamorphosis
In his article ‘Amazonia Ablaze’, we join Herbert Girardet on a flight over the Amazon in the 1980s as the forest burns below to make way for cattle ranches. “Is Amazonia fated to be the premier sacrifice zone for the resource demands of a globalising world, experiencing the ever-increasing ecological footprint of urbanisation?” Girardet asks. His visit to the rainforest introduces Megamorphosis, the first of the Ecologist special series of essays that examine economics and the fossil fuel industry from different perspectives.
